More than 330 islands, of which 106 are inhabited, surrounded by clear blue water. Fiji is the perfect escape from a hectic lifestyle, yet is also very close to Australia and New Zealand. The Fijian islands are the perfect combination of mountains, volcanoes, lush rain forests and breath-taking beaches.
Given its natural advantages and famously friendly people, it is no wonder that the tourist industry is thriving and is the most important sector for the country’s economy. It has one of the most developed economies in the Pacific and to stimulate business, the government has recently implemented a number of pro-business reforms. English is one of the official languages in Fiji, which also makes doing business a lot easier.
People living on one of Fiji’s beautiful islands don’t need much, except a love for nature and spending time outdoors. There is an international school on the main island and the cost of living can be cheap for those willing to adapt to the island lifestyle and give up on luxuries they had before. Life on an island may be simple, what you get in return is priceless; you are surrounded by a tropical paradise and get the chance to step away from a hectic and stressful life.
Immigrants need a work permit to live and work in Fiji. A work permit committee, who meet every week to discuss the applications, considers each case separately.
There are a number of different permits you can apply for, such as an investment permit and a work permit for skilled workers. For the skilled worker permit, a number of requirements have to be met. A contract of employment, police check, medical report and relevant qualifications are all needed for the application.
An investor permit is also one of the options. The Fiji Islands Trade and Investment Bureau must approve business projects before a permit can be issued.
